What are Stopwords ?

Stopwords or filter words are short function words that occur very often and which do not convey any particular meaning. Examples are 'the', 'a', 'you', 'is', 'at', 'on' and 'which'.

Stopwords are often filtered out by the search engines prior to, or after, processing of data. There is not one definite list of stopwords which all search engines and tools use. Some specifically avoid using them to support phrase search.

The Page Analyzer and Article Analyzer automatically apply a stopword filter. Based on the language we guessed from analyzing a page we apply a stopwords list filter in the proper language.

Currently supported languages are: Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Portugese, Spanish, Swedish and Russian.
